About Mason

Mason was a gifted student-athlete who put his heart into everything he did. He was an honor student who loved math as much as the game of basketball and discovered he was a natural talent in track and field, specifically in high jump.

He was bright, kind, courageous, and charismatic. He could light up a room and make everyone he spoke with feel as though they were his best friend. He treated people with respect, concern, and care. He was loved and he loved his family, teammates and friends dearly. His friends describe him as the most selfless, supportive, and genuine person they knew. In school, his smile and laugh were infectious, his sense of style never went unnoticed, and his advocacy for mental health changed his peers for the better. He inspired everyone who was around him.

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mason began to struggle emotionally. His anxiety and depression was something that he felt he could manage on his own. Unfortunately, as the pandemic stretched on his feelings of despair continued and his mental health suffered. Despite, having support from family, Mason carried his pain in silence, wearing a façade to mask his mental anguish. Sadly, he died by suicide on January 7, 2022 at 17 years old. While his life was short, his impact was enormous.
